Each year, the Terri Lynne Lokoff Foundation selects 50 early childhood teachers from among thousands of applicants to receive their national child care teacher award. Applicants submit a project idea that they would like to implement in their classroom, and discuss how they impact the children in the classroom on a daily basis. The selected award recipients receive a stipend and funding to implement their classroom idea, and are recognized at a fabulous awards dinner ceremony. Only one teacher is then chosen by the Foundation from the 50 award recipients to be recognized as the national teacher of the year. Tammy Helman, a preschool teacher at Tender Care Learning Center in Lower Burrell PA, was the recipient of the 2006 National Child Care Teacher of the Year award. For more information on these awards, visit the Terri Lynne Lokoff Foundation’s website at www.childcareabc.org.
Over the past seven years, our Tender Care Learning Centers in Western PA have had 19 teachers receive the national child care teacher award. In addition, 10 teachers from our Apple Tree Children’s Centers in Iowa, and 7 teachers from our Apple Tree Children’s Centers in Connecticut have received this award. Our schools have had more teachers receive the national teacher award than any other company in the country. In fact, we have had as many award-winning teachers as the next seven companies on the list … combined.
