Our History
Tender Care was founded in 1982 on the idea that early education schools should tenderly care for children while inspiring a lifelong love of learning.
The first location opened that year in the Pittsburgh-area neighborhood of Bethel Park, and a year later, the Robinson Tender Care site opened. Additional Tender Care locations in the region soon followed as parents learned of our unique approach to early social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
In 1997, Tender Care Learning Centers combined with Apple Tree Children’s Centers to form a multi-state system of child care centers devoted to serving children and their families with a teaching staff of early education professionals.
For years, Tender Care and Apple Tree maintained their separate brand names while operating successfully as one company. In the spring of 2015, Apple Tree and Tender Care united as one under the Tender Care Learning Centers’ name.
Today, Tender Care operates 18 locations in Pennsylvania. Tender Care is proud to be the chosen child care provider for two national sports teams located in Pittsburgh; the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
